I haven’t figured out how to make intelligent choices regarding running. In 1994
I was stupid enough to run across the United States in the 3000-mile TransAmerica Race
(top American, 2nd overall). Since I was 39 at the time, I would like to attribute that
to the foolish, blithe spirit of youth, but I haven’t become smarter with age. In 2007,
I ran across Florida in the 170-mile Sunrise to Sunset Relays Solo Race (first place).

How did all this madness begin? After graduating from college in 1977, I realized that
I needed to take care of my body if I was going to get any mileage out of it. Running
fit the bill – convenient, inexpensive, and there were a lot of crazy people like me in
the sport. I found my home.

My running home since 2002 has been with the 3D Road Runners Club. Finally, I don’t
stick out like a sore thumb! In this club, there are plenty of people eating at the
“Insanity Buffet.“ Please join us. We welcome runners of all abilities. If you’re insane
about running, you’ll feel the warmth of unconditional acceptance. If you’re sane,
we’ll help you shed that bad habit. :)
